The wedge was invented in the 1930s by Italian designer Salvatore Ferragamo. In short order it swept the fashion world and many designers started to copy his designs. This pair of women’s wedge-heeled platforms was made by Luigi Bufarini Calzature di Lusso. The upturned toe and dripping gold kid applique leather is suggestive of exotic excess and in keeping with the larger fashion trends at the end of the decade.
