The Jaunseowon Confucian Academy, where Yi I (pen-name: Yulgok) is enshrined, is located in Paju-si. The Academy was built by local Confucian scholars after Yi I’s death in 1615 (the 7th year of the reign of King Gwanghaegun of the Joseon Dynasty). The tombs of Yi I and his mother Sin Saimdang are situated behind the Academy.
