Kakizi Jemima is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, founder of Impundu Arts Center and co-founder of Rwandan Womxn Artists (R.W.A), a collective aiming to bring together women visual artists in Rwanda and to raise their visibility. Jemima's works encompasses paintings, art installations using recyclable materials and creating with the community (learning through art) and explores themes such as women empowerment, mental health, environmental protection, sexual and gender based violence. Inspired by her community and what happens around her, Jemima creates trying to find solutions.
Jemima uses art to tackle subjects rarely talked about or considered taboo to start conversations that bring about positive change in her community, which is one of her goals. Her other goals as an artist are to support women visual artists gain visibility in the visual art scene and contribute to the growth of the Rwandan art scene. For her work and efforts, Jemima has been nominated for Forbes Women Africa Social Impact Awards 2023.
