James Earl Carter Jr. is an American politician who served as the 39th President of the United States. A member of the Democratic Party, he also served as the Governor of Georgia prior to his election as president. Carter has remained active in public life during his post-presidency, and in 2002 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with the Carter Center. Deng Xiaoping was a Chinese revolutionary and statesman. He was the paramount leader of the People's Republic of China , Deng led his country through far-reaching market-economy reforms and was responsible for economic reforms the opening to the global economy. Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev was a Soviet politician who led the Soviet Union from 1964 to 1982 as the General Secretary of the Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).
