José de la Torre y del Cerro was born in Cordoba in 1876. As a professional archivist and librarian, he dedicated his entire life to research. He was an official chronicler for the Province of Cordoba for many years, studying distinguished personalities from the city, such as Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba (El Gran Capitán, or Great Captain), Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, and the conquistador, Gonzalo Ximénez de Quesada. He also delved deep into the Cordoban roots of Miguel de Cervantes.
