Title: Before Barchessa after Foresteria
Creator: Vincenzo Scamozzi
Date Created: 1602
Location Created: Riviera del Brenta, Venice, Italy
Provenance: The building, dated early 17th century, was born at first as "Barchessa". In fact the Cellar was used as warehouse for the agricultural tools they needed to farm their land ownership, while the present Attic was a granary where their harvests (mainly wheat and grain) were put to get dry. Only later, due to the increase of the family's esteem, the building became "Foresteria", that was a place to host the Foscarini's nobles guests. The word "Foresteria", indeed, means who is "foreign", a stranger.
