The donor was contacted by a friend living near Los Angeles in the US, telling him that a rare Taegeukgi (Korean flag) with words of encouragement for soldiers fighting in the Korean War was on exhibit at a military fair in the United States. The donor purchased and kept the artifact in his custody.
Details: Friends of Woo Yong-am, who was leaving to fight in the Korean War, gathered to write words of encouragement for their friend on this flag. Wishing him good fortune on the battlefield, they wrote “Long live the great warrior Woo Yong-am,” “Fidelity,” “Be deadly in battle,” and other messages.
