Krzysztof Kieślowski took at least several dozen pictures during his studies at the Łódź Film School. Years later, they were shown as part of the exhibition Photographs from the City of Łódź, the title of which is a reference to the title of the documentary film Kieślowski made at the Warsaw Documentary Film Studio. The short documentary From the City of Łódź (1969) was also Kieślowski's graduation film. A year earlier, Kieślowski had made a TV reportage The Photograph, telling the story of a director (Kieślowski himself) who was searching Warsaw's Praga district trying to find two brothers who had been photographed by a wartime photojournalist (in September 1944, he found himself in one of the yards in this district).
