Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares de Sevilla
Sevilla, Spain

A pointed mantilla shawl in Brussels-application lace and needlework. The varied floral decorative motifs are arranged on a mechanically sewn ground of square figures. Prominent in the centre are four shields in a counterpoised position consisting of flowers and pebbles. The motifs are produced with cloth and half stitches and the decorations with guipure and festoon stitches. The thread is fine and has a bundle of threads around the motifs, a typical feature of this lacework.
