From 1910 onwards Hermann Schiefelbein took art classes in Düsseldorf, an old center celebrated in the 19th century by its landscape paintings linked to German Romanticism. When he came to Brazil after World War II the artist proved to be somewhat immune to the avant-gardes of the beginning of the century. His production, although small, was of landscapes or thematic scenes, still reminiscent of Romanticism.
