This ornamentation is part of a precious manuscript, dating from the 15th century, decorated with 168 miniatures. The text is inspired by a theological treaty drafted in the previous century, which depicts the scenes of the Old and New Testaments.
The story of Noah is part of The Book of Genesis. God warned Noah of the deluge to come, and commanded him to construct an ark to save himself, along with his family and two of each species of animal. The rain fell for 40 days and 40 nights, destroying all forms of life on earth. This detail represents the moment when the dove, released by Noah, returns to him carrying an olive branch. After several months of sailing, they approached dry land.
The drawing of the miniatures is sophisticated, with realistic animals, and even, fine waves. The vessel in itself is formed of a shell and a dome, creating a whimsical appearance.
