Legnica, Poland

The earthworks at the new town square, completed in the south-western part of Legnica, began in 1893. The surrounding buildings were completed by 1912. The inhabitants of Legnica named the square after Benjamin Bilse (1816–1902), the director of the city orchestra, a well-known conductor and composer. In the years 1915-1945 the official patron was Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934)
