After Chopin’s death, Stirling took it upon herself to secure the composer’s legacy: she bought a considerable number of his personal e ects and kept an album of press cuttings devoted to him. She gave some of the souvenirs to Fryderyk’s family, maintaining close contacts with his sister Ludwika. The two women became friends, as evidenced by extant correspondence relating to the composer’s legacy and to the erection of his tombstone at Père-Lachaise cemetery.
