Eisenstein reproduced many drawings from this sketch book in the letters and postcards he sent to his mother. June 1914: „I didn’t have time to write letters. Now, thank God, trigonometry, geometry, calculus, and physics are over. The rest is trivial: natural history (on the 23rd), French (on the 27th), and German (on the 31st). And after that: freedom, freedom! So far I’ve passed all my exams with excellent marks, and earned praise from our instructor. I’m likely to have only A’s and B’s and not a single C on my record! On May 9th I went by car to the beach and back. How do you like my drawings?”
