Loading the balloon basket

Helium gas is much lighter than the same amount of air. That is why it rises in the surrounding air and can even lift the weight of the balloon's envelope, its basket and a payload. This is static lift. The surrounding air does not move. One cubic meter of helium can lift 1.11 kilos.
