Temple Pool is located at the very heart of Temple Wood, immediately north of the Temple of Diana. Its water reflects light into the Temple and also provides visual interest from the birdlife that it attracts. It was in fact created after Brown's time at Weston, probably to the design of the Staffordshire landscape gardener John Webb. The Roman Bridge, which now spans its eastern arm, was already in existence, having been built to James Paine's design when Paine was working alongside Brown at Weston. It formerly spanned what Paine described as a 'limpid' brook.
