Concert of music by Louis Andriessen performed by Asko|Schönberg, Cristina Zavalloni and Monica Germino in Holland Festival 2009.
Today, the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ is celebrating the 70th birthday of Louis Andriessen – the Netherlands’ leading composer. The programme mostly consists of music created and performed by friends of Louis Andriessen. The master’s own work La Passione (2002), will take centre stage. Cristina Zavalloni from Italy will sing La Passione, as she did at its première in London in 2002. It is a piece of music that Andriessen wrote for her, to verses by her compatriot Dino Campana. La Passione harks back to the adventurous modernism from the 1910s . After the intermission, you will hear a birthday surprise, as well as the famous Folk Songs, composed by Andriessen’s old teacher, Luciano Berio.
