MAHADEV PARVATHI: This is a representation of Shiva in his sportive form (lila-murti) of Vigneshanugraha-murti- the form of Lord Shiva in the act of blessing or bestowing grace upon Ganapathi. It is in this form of Lord Shiva that the Ganapathi is made the lord of the troops (gana-pathi).

In this print from the Ravi Varma Press derived from a painting by Raja Ravi Varma Lord Shiva is represented as the central figure carrying the trident (trishul). His primary hands embrace Parvathi and the other hand supports the infant Ganapathi. The infant Ganapathi is seen carrying a sweet dumpling (modaka) , a flower and his tusk (danta). The troops (ganas) are in the background playing music in celebration. In the foreground are the vehicles (vahans) of both Shiva and Parvathi, the bull Nandi and the lion.
