This drawing was created after Kulisiewicz’s return from Brazil, where he traveled in 1962. The sketch for it can be found in a preserved sketchbook brought back from the trip. The man is depicted during his work – Kulisiewicz often enjoyed sketching the locals engaged in their everyday tasks during his numerous intercontinental travels. From the dark background and setting, the light forms of the man and the animal emerge — the man is leading a heavily laden donkey, seemingly beyond its strength. The background is a symbolically rendered mountainous landscape. The white shapes of the man, donkey, and baggage are outlined with sparse linear strokes, and their modeling is achieved through light gray watercolor washes.
