Huang was born in Tainan, a county in southern Taiwan, in 1978. He was one of the young designers selected by Salvatore Ferragamo in the 2001 contest. His chosen work is among the permanent collection in the Palace of Florence. When he studied arts and ballet in the United States, he was overwhelmed by Western culture and experienced a fusion that transcends race and tradition.Huang’s designs are infused with Taiwanese traditional beliefs. Even when local culture meets global trends, Huang is able to retain the individuality of traditional Taiwanese culture in his work
Mannequins are used as life-sized models to fit clothing, a means of communication between fashion designers and society. Jasper Huang collects everyday waste products and recycled materials to produce an eco-friendly mannequin, embodying care and concern for the environment.
