The decline of commercial activity between Seville and Cadiz during 17th century, reaffirmed by the transfer of the Casa de Contratación to Cadiz in 1717, had one of its most important causes in the problems of navigability of the Guadalquivir. This map is part of the file of an award presented by the Economic Society of Friends of the Country in Seville for the improvement of the navigability of the river. The winning project was made by Francisco Pizarro, Mathematics teacher at the Royal Seminary of San Telmo, and was aimed to eliminate obstacles for navigation and to prevent floods.
