This shooting target was created in the Erzgebirge region and takes the shape of a double-headed, crowned eagle with colourful plumage and outspread wings. So-called ‘bird’ shooting or target shooting is still practised in many locations in Germany to elect the champion shot. That the marksmen should take aim at an artificial bird has been known from France and the Netherlands since the Late Middle Ages.
