Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea

Samat is a pioneer in contemporary weaving art and recreates Malaysia's traditional Songket textile weaving method based on her unique interpretation. The artist's work begins from traditional textile techniques and aesthetics that exist in the different cultures of Malaysia. She uses synthetic fibers and rattan sticks instead of natural, colorful threads to create objects that are symmetrical yet complex.

The works displayed at the ASEAN Craft Exhibition are inspired by ancient tales of the artist's ancestors, creating colorful and sophisticated totems. They also evoke the lineage of Samat's family and Malaysia's rich cultural diversity. After graduating, she received numerous awards including the Panelist Award at the 2014 Open Show Malaysia, the top 10 Malaysian Female Artists Award in 2013, and the Incentive Award at the 2012 Selangor Shah Alam Gallery in Malaysia. She had residency at the Hudson Valley Contemporary Art Museum in the U. S. and opened her first solo exhibition entitled "Greatest Love" in 2019.
