A sculpture named Metanome 7 by the South African artist Ettienne de Kock. Metanome 7 uses pendulums to produce unpredictable patterns of movement. The work is activated by the viewer, and physical involvement to engage with the work is encouraged. The work was acquired by the University of Pretoria at the university's Centenary art exhibition by the Department of Fine Arts. The work is made of forged steel, timber and found objects. Short biography: Ettienne de Kock obtained a BA (Fine Arts) degree from the University of Pretoria in 1986 and was trained by Mike Edwards, who was one of the first South African artists to import ceramic shell technology. After graduating the artist taught bronze casting at the Technikon Natal. De Kock moved to Muizenberg in the Western Cape, where he does a mix of technical work, museum displays, restauration and his own sculptural work, which is concerned with unpredictability, participation and time.
