The micrometer, also known as Palmer's micrometer or a screw gauge, is an instrument used to measure small objects with high precision (to hundredths or thousandths of a millimeter). The spindle is moved towards the stationary anvil by turning a screw thread, and two sliding scales in the cylinder and the thimble, to determine the diameter of the item. This model is a simplified version made for schools, as stated in its name (micrómetro didáctico, meaning teaching micrometer). It was used to get students accustomed to handling scientific equipment. This piece was manufactured by Enosa, which was created by the National Institute of Industry in 1951. It manufactured precision optical equipment under the guidance of the German company Zeiss. Together with other trading houses, it played a significant role in the modernization of teaching supplies. It provided a diverse range of supplies for teaching the experimental sciences, from laboratory glass to projectors and sound recorders.
