Fernando Redón is not a painter in the strict sense of the word. He is an architect who designs, draws and paints and displays, in all his proposals, no matter how different they may be, a concern for nature, a respect for the environment in which man lives, for the humanisation of that which man builds and ultimately for the integration of nature, human beings and the spaces that they create. This work shows that respect, almost admiration, for nature. It is a very realistic and figurative painting seeking detail without more artifice. It is also a reflective painting —nothing loud— silent, encouraging viewers to lose themselves in the depicted scene. The landscape becomes one and multiple at the same time. The same painting shows different entry routes with the same destination. Redón plays with perspective, with planes, like a good builder of space. At the forefront, he abstracts a set of flowers that are without a doubt the most carefully-drawn and accurate part of the picture. Fresh flowers, which give way to a field in which there is a sign that does not belong to nature, but rather to man’s action upon it. From the sign, the eye roams to the end of the wheat field, reaching a road which is the beginning of another possible journey. The whole picture shows a clear control of colour, treated with the strictness imposed by faithfulness to reality as it is.
