Military drum

Snare drum. Dark wood body, unpainted. Rims wood painted buff with black painted scrollwork. Skin batter head and snare head. Metal snare strainer and spun wire snares. Metal tension rods with winged heads at snare head.

Maker’s plate on upper rim “Carl Fischer/Cooper Square, New York/Boston-Philadelphia-Chicago.” Maker’s stamp on batter head, not legible but contains the word “white.”

Military stencil “10 CAV” on body (indicating post-1937 use).

During World War II, the 10th Cavalry Regiment served in the United States while it’s members made up cadres for other cavalry commands serving overseas.

Carl Fischer, a noted music publisher, manufactured musical instruments from the late 1800s until 1999.
