The Gillette Cup semi-final in front of a crowd of 9,463 between Western Australia and Queensland played 12 December 1976 at the WACA Ground became known as the Miracle Match. On a Perth pitch livelier than usual Western Australia were dismissed for 77 runs in 22.5 eight-ball overs. In WA's first over, aggressive pace bowling by Dennis Lillee claimed the wicket of Viv Richards for a duck, leading to a Queensland collapse to be all out for 62 in 20.3 eight-ball overs. Lillee finished with 4/21 off 7.3 overs to be Man-of-the-Match. Western Australia went on to win the Final against Victoria in Melbourne.
