This armour was worn by Tachibana Muneshige, the first lord of the Yanagawa domain. It was made in the late 16th century, showing features of the earliest type of Tosei armour. However, the cuirass and the helmet are originals while the other parts were supplemented afterwards. The big ring design represented on the cuirass is the same motif of the crest on the helmet. In the Tachibana family, it is called "Gachirin" which expresses a ring round the moon.
With the large waistline and thick iron plates, we can imagine the amazing physique of Muneshige. The body part alone weighs up to 12 kg.
