Bekki Dōsetsu (1513-85) became the lord of the Tachibanayama castle in 1571, and his daughter Ginchiyo inherited it. Ginchiyo married Muneshige. Accordingly, Muneshige succeeded the castle. He later became the lord of the Yanagawa domain.
A site of the Tachibanayama castle, which is associated with the Yanagawa domain, is depicted by an official painter of the domain, Umezawa Seiga (?-1864). The inscription on the painting was written by a Confucian scholar, Hoashi Banri.
Seiga joined the investigation of the founder Dōsetsu’s achievements in 1839, and visited Banri in 1841. The inscription is considered to have been written at that time.
This classical Japanese style painting shows a refined and calm landscape, which was Seiga’s specialty.
