These portable mirrors were a stylish accessory for medieval women. Crafted from bone or ivory and held together by a cord, they were worn at the waist. The mirrors were decorated in bas-relief with depictions, almost always alluding to courtship and love. In this case on the mirror blanket we see a particular courtship: the ladies locked in the castle defend themselves from the amorous attack of the knights.
