Mutuophagy

Ai Weiwei’s process in Brazil has been marked by a communion of cultural exchange. This was accomplished through learning and digesting each culture’s identity. Mutuophagy is the pain and pleasure of a bite given and a bite taken. The photograph captures the mutual anthropophagic ritual in which Ai Weiwei is eating the fruits of the nation as he is concurrently served as the dish.  This work was produced with Sergio Coimbra during the final days of the exhibition set up in São Paulo.
