Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine

Master of The Redeemer (active in Verona between the second and the fourth decade of the 14th century)1320

Museo di Castelvecchio

Museo di Castelvecchio
Verona, Italy

The anonymous painting of the Virgin and Child with six saints (Rusticus, Martin, Lucy, Catherine, Zeno and Firmus) is representative of the Giottesque style of the first half of the 14th century, before the arrival of Turone, with solid volumetric figures. Interesting are the female saints, who resemble in form and costume the large statues of the Master of Santa Anastasia of about the same date.
