In the 1930s, the Electric Railway Presidents Conference Committee developed a design for a modern, streamlined streetcar. New Jersey Transit No. 5 is one of these PCC cars. Built in 1946, this car originally served in Minneapolis and St. Paul. In 1953, it went to Newark, NJ for operation on the Newark City Subway. No. 5 remained in service until new, light rail vehicles replaced it in 2001 after running a remarkable 55 years in transit service. In this view, No. 5 is next to Tower C, a signal tower from the Boston elevated.
