The New South Wales Centennial Regatta was held on Sydney Harbour on 27 January 1888 to celebrate the centenary of the British founding of the colony of New South Wales. The trophy in the form of an epergne (decorative table centrepiece) is a rededicated greyhound racing trophy engraved with the winning crew’s names. The shield reads ‘Centennial Regatta January 27th 1888 Senior Fours /won by N. Johnson (bow) JG Kennedy (no. 2) JEH Kennedy (no. 3) E Dobson (stroke)’.
