In May 1947, Charles B. Robinson, his stepfather William and Charles L. Chapin came to Hamburg. They had previously been involved in the construction of American telegraph lines. To Samuel Morse's horror, on June 30, 1847, they used the Hamburg newspaper "Börsen-Halle" to seek out parties interested in his invention, which was not protected in Germany. They received support from the Hamburg Senator Carl Möring, who had already contacted the 3 in the States and encouraged them to travel to Germany.
