Starting from figurative painting, Tomie Ohtake, a Brazilian naturalized Japanese artist, came to stand out as an exponent of abstractionism, without being constrained to one or another type of expression. She devoted herself to relevant experiences with colors, initially with few and later on getting involved with variations of only one, exploring textures and transparencies. The artist identifies her work as "silent painting" and her process as the "search for synthesis". The untitled work (2004) is an example of the pieces whose color is the main element and brings out, in due course, its own testimony: "It was the yellow light here - I fell in love when I landed at the port of Santos."
