The Squirrel Glider is not found in Norfolk Island, though its species name was given with the belief that it was found there (Norfolcensis). The etching is credited to Peter Mazell, an Irish painter and engraver, working in London between c. 1761 and 1797.

This illustration was published in 'The voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay : with an account of the establishment of the colonies of Port Jackson & Norfolk Island'.
