Patrick Henry's Red Hill

Patrick Henry's Red Hill
Brookneal, Virginia, United States

This watercolor is one of five completed by Susan Alrich Low (1879–1965) in 1904. Ms. Low visited Red Hill as a guest of her cousin, Mary Blarden Dulany Henry, wife of William Wirt Henry Jr. This work shows the main house at Red Hill following its additions by Patrick Henry’s son, John, in 1832. Two years after this painting was completed, this house would cease to exist, and the construction of a 25-room mansion would commence in its place.
