The composition is of an almost elementary simplicity but is revived in curved lines, ranging from the crescent moon on which the Virgin is seated, to the large luminous mandorla around her body, to the halo that finally surrounds her head. The theme, certainly much requested by devotion, is believed to have been treated many times by Jacopo Tintoretto.
