Odontotos Rack Railway

The "Odontotos" Rack railway was constructed after the decision of the Prime Minister of Greece, Harilaos Trikoupis, in 1889. The line was designed by French engineers and built by Greek and Italian labourers. The total track length is 22,3 kilometres and its construction took five years. The first train to cover the full distance ran on 10 March1896. Since then this rail service has been a very important component for the development of the town of Kalavryta.
