Coverlets, unlike quilts, are made from scratch rather then pre-existing fabric. This overshot coverlet was woven in two panels, on a narrow loom, and then the panels were sewn together to make one coverlet. This allow weavers to make more complex patterns. it is quite possible that the women living at Four Mile Creek Mills actively participated in the coverlet weaving operations.
