Speculative fiction concerns itself with supernatural and futuristic themes, thereby encompassing science fiction, fantasy and horror - which are only just beginning to gain traction in Africa. This Panel (Dilman Dila, Nnedi Okorafor, Mehul Gohil, Tendai Huchu) discussed which elements of this genre are prevalent in African literature and what trends and differences are emerging in speculative fiction authored by Africa and writers from other parts of the world. It also explored what social factors influence the subject matter and how writers should respond to this. The panel was moderated by Mazi Fred Nwonwu
