Panoploscelis specularis

A large omnivorous katydid genus found in the jungles of western South America. Both males and females have a loudspeaker that emits sound at the same time. Its body is dark brown, legs are very long and thorny. The male is 60-80 mm long (about 90 mm maximum), and the female is 70-100 mm long (largest individual record 110 mm). Found in Peru, Ecuador, Pastasa, Amazon and other places with high temperature and humid climate conditions. It belongs to arboreal insect and mainly feeds on other insects and fruits. Because of its huge size, it is also called "giant lobster crickets".
