Legnica, Poland

View of Legnica from the turret crowning the roof of the building of today's bishop's curia, in the Auguste-Viktoria Schule era. The city is shown from the south. In the compact development of the foreground, on the left side you can see the building of the Lower Silesian Museum (Niederschlesische Museum), behind it the side facade of the then People's House of Education (Volksbildungshaus) - a building erected in 1867 as the Municipal Gymnasium. On the left, the court and prison buildings. Ten towers dominate the city's landscape. From the left you can see: the Church of St. John with two towers, the towers of the castle, another two crowning the façade of the Church of the Virgin Mary, two towers of the Church of St. Peter and Paul, and finally the churches on the right bank of the Kaczawa River - the church dedicated to the memory of Emperor Frederick III (Kaiser Friedrichs-Gedächtniskirche) and the church of St. Trinity, the last two temples with one tower each. The building of the New Town Hall stands out in the panorama of Legnica - the seat of the city authorities which commissioned the artist to create a veduta. In front of the church of St. John, you can find the upper storey and the roof of the Knight's Academy with a triangular tympanum. The tram at today's pl. Słowiański, it was placed thanks to the fantasy of the creator of the woodcut. In 1942, an exhibition of the works of Erich Feyerabend was held in the Legnica museum, during which the panorama of Legnica, ordered by the city authorities, was shown for the first time.
