Legnica, Poland

Weduta shows the Church of the Virgin Mary before the fire in 1822 and the surroundings from the eastern side. The city is surrounded by defensive walls. The temple located in the center of the painting is presented from the side of the chancel and the side southern façade with the higher of the two towers. The body of the church is partially obscured by nearby buildings. On the right you can see the upper part of the castle tower of St. Peter, the tower of the Wrocław Gate, the former church of St. Maurice at the Benedictine nunnery. To the left of the Church of the Virgin Mary is the single-nave church of St. John of Nepomuk at the bishop's court, and in the background the towers of the church of St. John. In front of the entrance to the city from the side of the Wrocław suburbs, a garden and greenhouses (greenhouses) are shown. In the foreground, a row of picturesque young lime trees and two men, including the author of the painting, Johann Wilhelm Schumm, in the uniform of a Landwehr.
