SPECULUM, a work created by the Dutch collective SMACK, is a triptych made up of Eden, Paradise, and Hell, which rigorously transfers Bosch’s masterpiece to the 21st century. Paradise talks about group dynamics, egotistical obsession and the construction of virtual identity, through solitary characters and numerous references to the recent history of social networks. SMACK is a collective formed by Ton Meijdam (Geldermalsen, Netherlands, 1973), Thom Snels (Tilburg, Netherlands, 1978), and Béla Zsigmond (Budapest, Hungary, 1975). This artistic collective uses 3D animation to create figurative videos that explore collective behaviour, digital identity, surveillance culture and the omnipresence of brands.
