Originally located in the church of San Francesco in Como, the
sepulchral monument of Franchino Rusca was rebuilt in Hall 4 of the Museum. It is one of the grandest and best
preserved Gothic funerary monuments in Lombardy, despite lacking certain
elements, such as the statue of the deceased, which must have been in the
funeral chamber above the sarcophagus.
The architectural layout inspired by Tuscan models from the
early decades of the fourteenth century and the Pisan influence discernable in
the style of the figures suggest the work of Tuscan craftsmen trained by
Giovanni di Balduccio from Pisa.
