Photograph of the Porch at Castle Bromwich Hall

Lady Lucy and Lady Charlotte Bridgeman were two daughters of the 2nd Earl and Countess of Bradford who developed a keen interest in calotype photography. Using the undercroft of the Temple of Diana as their darkroom, they took photographs such as this, showing the porch of their family's home at Castle Bromwich Hall. The architecture of the house is used as a theatrical foil to the group of figures in a highly advanced composition.
