Photograph of a vicuña, included in the album of photographic miniatures by José María Eguren from the archives of the National Library of Peru.
As part of the celebrations of the National Exhibition of 1872, several animals from different locations of Peru and some from other places around the world were brought to Lima to be exhibited in cages installed in the zoological garden next to the main building constructed for the event. Also, collections of plants were brought. After the War of the Pacific, the zoo was rebuilt and new animals were brought in, among these vicuñas, medium-sized South American herbivorous camelids that live in the Altiplano. Later, the fairground wil be transfered to a new location.
